Opeople started as a result of passion for organic living, fair-trade and proving that there can be ethics in the recruitment industry and recently branching into mainstream industries E.g. healthcare, provided the company or organisation can demonstrate good people and planet ethics.
We opened our first office in Park Street, Bristol; January 2005. With fine views over the city centre and barely room to house two desks, we had our first order within a couple of hours and we're interviewing the successful candidate later that day.
Companies laughed when we introduced ourselves as being an ethical recruitment agency...some just misheard us and thought we were called Old People.
We wanted to be different. Lower fees had to be a factor but so did ethics. Being an ethical recruiter was something people hadn’t heard of. Companies using ordinary recruitment agencies got to hear of Opeople and within a short space of time candidates and clients were offering recommendations to others and a new chapter unfolded.
Needing more space, a second office was opened the following year in converted barn in Charfield near Bristol. The decision to relocate from Bristol was easy. Only 20 minutes from the heart of Bristol; our barn was in easy reach of candidates and we had room to breath and expand.
Then the rain came and five weeks later the barn was completely flooded. Gloucestershire rivers had swollen and water had completely covered the area. Furniture, computers, paperwork, everything was submerged. Business continued remotely for three months but soon things were back on track.
To date we have made good progress in all avenues of organic, natural health and ethical business across the UK.
We have our eco-friendly office in Gloucestershire and a satellite office; Central London. Being highly mobile, adapting to market conditions and keeping our carbon footprint as low as possible will always be important.
Our core values and ethics enable us to attract really great candidates and give them what they’re looking for.
We screen and interview all applicants before passing there details to the hiring client and only when we have their permission do so.
We pay our temporary staff on time each week and provide detailed and accurate invoices to our clients.
We support charities like the Soil Association and donate organic trees to schools by way of offsetting our business carbon emissions which happen to be very low anyway.
Our office is environmentally friendly, with low power usage technology, thermo-fleece insulation, green supplies, recycling and planned travel; outside of rush hour.
We work hard and get the job done.
